9 Foods that Help "Beat Stress"

Is it that time of year again?  Stress comes rolling in along with finals, taxes, and work; whatever may be your worries.  Many of us fear of gaining a few pounds due to our stressful woes, but who would think that eating could “beat” stress? According to Women’s Health Magazine, there are foods, yes foods that can calm stress:
  • Almonds: Contains vitamin E which boosts the immune system & vitamin B
  • Pistachios & Walnuts: Promotes heart health
  • Avocados: Contains monounsaturated fats & potassium that lowers blood pressure
  • Skim Milk: Reduces muscle spasms & soothes tension
  • Oatmeal: Helps brain produce more serotonin, which relaxes brain
  • Oranges: Contains vitamin C, which lowers blood pressure & levels of cortisol (stress hormone)
  • Salmon: Contains omega-3 fatty acids which keeps adrenaline & cortisol from rising  & also prevents heart disease
  • Spinach: Contains magnesium which lowers stress levels

So, before reaching for the tub of ice cream the next time you’re having a meltdown, remember these nine foods that are both healthy and have the ability to beat the stress.
